Skyping from Zermatt, Switzerland!
To begin my story, I must note that I am out of the country…as usual. We are training in Zermatt, Switzerland and it is going really well! Zermatt is one of my favorite places in the world, and it is absolutely breathtaking.
When on the road, I still have lots of people I want and need to be in touch with and before going to bed last night I, yet again, realized how incredible Skype is. I’ve gotten to see my boyfriend, talked to my mom about McPhie Cabinetry, called my co-worker Amy to discuss bookkeeping, called US Bank, caught up with my sister and saw my nephew Coby blow me a kiss. I’ve kept in touch with my team manager, was able to find out how one of my best friend’s knee surgeries went, talked with my strength coach, and gotten to wave good morning to my parents. On top of all that I shared my computer screen with Mike from Outlaw Partners who was able to see and talk me through setting up my email address for my website. Whew…I’m probably forgetting something! Skype has made my long trips away from loved ones seem shorter, and has made me feel close by instead of across the world. Because of all those things, it has helped me fully enjoy where I am, and not be feeling in quite as much of a rush to get home.
In a way I want to keep Zermatt a secret…I’ve never been anywhere like it. It is a village where you buy what you can carry, you go where you can walk, and you walk everywhere on cobblestone walkways or winding trails. There are no cars here, just electric taxis to get your stuff from the train station to the hotel. The hiking is unbelievable, the Matterhorn does not seem like it could be real, and I get to train with people from all over the world. Everywhere I go I hear English, Swedish, Russian, German, French, Finnish, Japanese, Norwegian…it is unreal. Every time I come here I wish the US had more of an emphasis on learning other languages, it is incredible to watch my Swedish coach, Lasse, talk to me in English then turn to his friend and speak Swedish. Or watch the coach for the Swedish team (who is from Quebec) coach his Swedish athletes in English, and speak to his wife in French. To think if we hired someone from another country, like Lasse, and all of a sudden we were “learning” how to ski moguls in Swedish. What amazing life experiences I am having.
Basically, I love my life, and more and more every day I am thankful for the opportunities I have had and am continuing to have, and all of the people who have supported me and believed in me along the way. And with that…I’m off to hike up to a wonderful breakfast while I am still in this beautiful place for three more days!
